Very addicting game. It's just too bad that the level scaling curve isn't very balanced. You can have a really great setup but no matter what, eventually the enemies will out scale you faster. No matter how much you optimize your build, if you don't get insanely lucky to constantly upgrade it, you will eventually just run into a wall you can't overcome, through no real fault of your own.
You can build very tanky, with massive heals and scaling damage, but the enemies just get tankier, deal more damage, start laying curses on you every turn, etc. There's just no build that scales enough to keep up.
I'm not sure what the game/developer wants me to build here... If I go full damage, eventually I run into enemies that abuse that with spikes or just massive walls of HP. If I go more of a tank build, the enemy damage just out scales it until 50 armor is nothing, and each turn has you taking 100 damage total.
The only reason you're dying is because you haven't gotten a good enough build yet. For the enemies with spikes, there is a relic "Cleansing Candle" that removes spikes when you attack. 50 armor is not enough. With items like archangel armor, the forge event which adds haste onto shields, or the item "Pretty Anklet", you can get haste which with structures or helmets, can get to the 999 block cap, although poison will kill you if you only block. With Assasin's Dagger, which gets one extra damage per kill, you can get to floor 100 and theoretically get to any floor you want.
Was saving a run with the Red Hoodie item noticed a save state bug that got rid of my max total hp gained from the item and my current hp of 54/55, that when I continued put me back to base hp of 40/40.
Suggestion to add a setting called "Automatic End Turn" which automatically ends your turn if you have 0 energy and there are no mana in your backpack.
I don't care. Just make it a toggleable setting so people who want convenience can have it. If you have consumables, just don't turn the setting on. Just think about your moves BEFORE you use up all your energy! WOW! What a great idea! You should be doing that anyways.
highly recommended butcher knives with the following items
Belt of Knives, stopwatch, windmill, duct tape,shield, shield spirit, cleansing flame and a lot of chefs hat(these are the necessary items to do a butcher knife build)
most important items is cleansing flame, duct tape and belt of knives and shield spirit
belt of knives so the more you attack the more you deal damage(note that you have to read it carefully to actually use it at its fullest, it was my first mistake when i made my first butcher knives run)
cleansing flame so that the spiked enemies deal less damage like king, rexecutioner, and the spear lizard thingy
you could also consider putting 2 vampiric items but I highly recommend the diagonal ones since they don't interrupt any butcher knives
if you dont know what duct tape does i suggest searching backpack hero butcher knives on youtube
Best run so far, still waiting for my infinite run luck =]. Triple haste on the shield, 1 rage on the machete below. This comp is weak against poison cause of a long-run dmg stack. Used to end my runs at stage 13. Happy with the improvement especially the first run without using energy on weapons and only depending on shield stacks and dmg stacks. The only thing disappointing I guess is the relic luck is not on my side at first. but I guess it doesn't matter now haha. This is just for reference. Hopefully, someone out there done the same run as mine =].
Good run, bats on floor 13 got me. The hercule pavice and shield got me 45 shield and 18 spike in one go (the left hercule had haste). The glass bottle, tusk, stopwatch, and letter boosted the arrows a ton. I likely could've played better and got past it, but I'm not that good at this game, still very fun though!
bug or maybe the cause of my mouse being kinda messy found this bug when I press the item inside a lot till the is not inside the bag don't know how to explain it
You could get slightly more damage by swapping the heart gem and one of the king cleavers. Especially if it has golden whetstones applied to it. The same is true for swapping Hercule and a King.
This works because the queens are not adjacent to the tape, so they apply BoK separately and only to the actually-adjacent weapons.
Also, one energy is definitely more damage than a chef’s hat.
All of that said, the aesthetics of your layout are a reason to not change a thing since your damage output will be plenty for many many levels to come.
Bug: If you dodge an attack, it does not proc spikes. Spikes says (Deal x damage when attacked), and if Dodge says (Next x attacks do not activate) or something like that, it would be logical. But dodge actually says (Next x attacks deal 0 damage), and an 0 damage attack is still an attack, therefore it should deal damage.
It’s weird how I’m on mobile and I used to be able to play the game with a bit of freezing but that’s it. Now whenever I try to it shows me a pop up that says
I was wondering when the Matthews Blessing unlocks, because ive seen people using it but cant seem to figure it out. Ive looked it up several times and still cant find the answer. any help would be appreciated
If you ditch the shields and the club and put that Jack (the bottom cleaver is a Jack, right?) and the two queens adjacent to the tape, you’d have quite a bit more damage while maintaining a healthy amount of shielding with 7 pavise uses per energy. Then you could, for the meme, put Guardian Rings where the Queens are.
yeah, i've made some adjustments since that pic, and the club is gone; it had 1 rage, which is why it stayed as long as it did but now i have enough cleavers to make up the difference of losing it.
And i'm still using one of the the mirror shields because it has 2 haste on it, but I've also gotten several more haste buffs stacked on one of the hercule shields, so it may be next to go.
I've also given up on the coral since enemies never get a chance to attack back into me, though spikes carried me quite a ways while i was collecting cleavers.
Two more Jack Cleavers (one for the end of the chain, and one to replace the Queen on the right-middle) and this build is finished, I think. I’m pretty sure that another cleaver is better than the Chef’s Hat.
I think I might stop here. This grind isn’t particularly interesting or fun, and waiting for the animations to stop is very tedious since the game pauses if I change tabs. I think two more Jacks to replace 2 Queens is the most damage this setup can do. It would be better if the middle-bottom Queen were a Jack, but I ended up putting a fair amount of buttery rage on it
In this sort of setup, Jacks are the best cleaver for the middle slots since they do 1 extra damage. Queens fill in the corners since the Kings can trigger them which triggers all of the taped cleavers again. I think it’s best to use butter (golden whetstones) on the King on the left since it gets the most benefit from Bag of Knives. Ideally you’ll never put rage on a Queen. You know what they say about a woman scorned.
Gemstone Heart might be better than Vampiric Crystal. It seems that vampirism doesn’t trigger spikes on King (the boss, not the cleaver), but it does on Repexcutioners? I could swear that my health wasn’t going down at some point but maybe that was when I was using gemstone hearts. It seems so very long ago… With a Heart (or Healing Whetstone) adjacent to any tape, you’d only end up losing 2 life for each of the Corner Queens since they aren’t getting the benefit.
All of that said, this build gets very boring very quickly. The worst part is that the animations have a seemingly exponential increase in duration with each activation.
It might become interesting again once I am not able to one-activation kill the normal mobs on a 3-mob fight, leading to a second turn, but that seems to be literal months of playtime away and not worth the slog.
I’d recommend that you avoid this build if your goal is to have fun. If you want to hit high dungeon levels, you’re probably better off with the Hercule the Assassin build. (multiple Hercule’s Pavise and other shields duct taped to an assassin’s blade with lots of rage and golden whetstone buffs). It’s still kind of a cookie-clicker build, but at least you won’t waste several minutes every fight waiting for animations to end.
To be fair, you can get pretty far with a single row of duct tape. I have tested it and the animations don’t quite get to the ridiculous trudge that they do with the tape extension. (thus making Chef’s Hat a better QoL item, even though it’s probably significantly less damage)
Found a game-breaker. The Fluffy Cotton (top left) gives two mana when you use a want, so the ethereal and first wands refill a mana when used. I have Ring of Doom. The only problem is getting block, but I still have some time (and a broken ring). Edit: Not as good as I initially thought. First "good" build and got exited.
This still seems very underwhelming to me given that the frog totem gives you 3 free mana every turn and you don’t have to juggle wands.
Maths: Each wand is (at least) 2 spaces and can be used only once per turn, so even with a non-wand mana sink, that’s 2 mana per turn for 3 slots instead of 3 mana per turn for one slot. Even the Wizard Cap seems better than Fluffy Cotton at 4 mana for 1 slot and 1 energy, but that depends on how much damage you are doing per energy.
With your 4 wands, that’s 8 mana per turn for 9 slots. It can never come close to the mana per space efficiency of frog totem.
I think the best case for it is stacking the AoE weapon wand with Ring of Doom, but that will quickly fall off in endless. I think it should be able to beat the first loop of the game, though.
Welp I was able to beat the game, first run as archer after all my other builds died to spikes on final boss.
I got the bomb relic and at first used phantasmal shivs and spikes + blocking which was painfully slow, but then found the phantasmal arrow wand that carried me thru the rest of the game. For most of the game after I got the build together I was ending every fight before enemy first turn, but it seems like it gets outscaled pretty fast in free play.
This is a great idea! Rose is one of the most underwhelming items imo, way outclassed by spiked helmet which add block and can be buffed by other items.
Made it at floor 17. I got to the shadows and couldn't keep up with them and lost. I needed more regen. Also, I found out that the damage increases the more you deny the curse...I got not 1, not 2, but 3 double shadow encounters at the end...unfortunate to say the least, but the farthest I've ever gotten thus far.

Pressing spacebar every turn is easier than having to go to settings every turn

my first good run, started of with a pickaxe build so that explaines all the gems, died att floor 23 to poison
if you want a 100lvl run I suggest butcher knives

All this needs is a shield spirit to be complete.
All of those weapons take 0 energy to use, so a shield spirit would just make them do less damage, actually.
Shield spirit doesn't use single use weapons if you've already used them this turn.
This also. But they’d still get the -1 damage for the first use. I’m not sure they’d get the -1 each time you use the shield.

More tape and cleavers is more damage, but the tradeoff is that the animations take much longer to finish.

won on the first run, bow and arrows.
main damage was an electric arrow, ton of manastones, a 3 mana bow a forge+5 and a forge +25% on it made it a beast.
the +5 healing for consumables is stupidly powerful, i had 5 in the inventory, turned each canteen into heal 100 and 4 energy.

Yeah I agree mirror shield is useless if you have candle
